Falling into Fashion

A little girl who was lost, until she found the wonderful world of fashion.

Nostalgia

Does anybody remember these? They’re called Harumika. Basically what they are is these dress forms, with a hole in the back. You take this stick and jab the fabric so it stays on the dress form. It’s genius if you ask me. It really taught me (somewhat) of fabric manipulation, even though it’s on an extremely small-scale. I used to use them all the time. And somehow they got shoved into the bottom of a drawer and I hadn’t used them in about a year. When I took them out, I knew I had to play with them.

They don’t really have any kind of correlation, but they were kind of inspired by Amy Winehouse/ 50’s/ tropical/ No Doubt. If that makes any sense at all. Especially with the cherry-print bandeau with the long skirt. And, obviously, the full 50’s style skirt the with music nots. Please excuse  the severe clashing of prints, even though it does look #totesamaze if you ask me.

I honestly don’t even know if you can still buy them: I used to buy them at toys R us. I  know so chic.  www.harumika.com

THIS.

I’m so excited for the Target x Neiman Marcus Holiday Collection! The collaboration includes 24 CFDA designers such as Skaist-Taylor, Rodarte, Proenza Schouler, Marc Jacobs, Judith Leiber, DVF, Oscar de la Renta, Brian Atwood, and Marchesa, just to name a few. What’s also really great about this is that the two companies are joining not just to sell, but donate 1 million dollars to the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America.) With past collaboration being a huge hit (who could forget Missoni x Target?), this is sure to be a big success.

Need to Survive

Is anyone as obsessed with these river island palazzo pants as I am? The pretty yellow-green color is already amazing, and then the added palm-tree tropical print and the bottom. Boom. You’ve got yourself some paradise whether you’re landlocked or not.

Lobsters, Anyone?

I was recently looking at the ah-mazing shoes on neimanmarcus.com, and I stumbled upon these lobster-print toms. They’re quite Schiaparelli-esque, right?

available here

The original lobster dress was so innovative and amazing. There’s obviously a reason she is still a force of nature in fashion today.

I also loved what Anna Wintour wore to the Met this year. I loved how it was a litteral way to honor E.S, but it was also unexpected and classy. The white on white was also gorgeous.

I can dream, right?

net-a-porter sale wishlist
The time between seasons are my favorite times of the year. Why? Designer Sale. Net-a-porter.com. I look at the sale everyday until it ends. Can I actually afford anything? Unfortunately, no. But I can dream.

Illustrated Beauties

One thing that I’ve always loved, even if I didn’t really realize it, was fashion illustrating. Right now, I’m obsessed with the work Izak Zenou. His work is really bright and cheery, but the girls that he illustrates seem so real. Almost like you’ve seen them walk down the street before. And he illustrates for Celine, which is basically one of the coolest things on the planet. His collaboration with Sephora Collection makeup is the perfect colors. Lots of pinks, reds, and not-so-basic browns. I love the eyeshadow pallet because they are colors that really complement my hazel eyes (or really any eye color). And the lipstick duos… let’s just say I will be on the lookout for those on my next trip to Sephora.

Current Obsession: Boy. By Band of Outsiders

Boy. By Band of Outsiders

I’m a huge fan of Scott Sternberg’s work in creating the label Band of Outsiders. I actually really like his menswear too. The real icing on the cake for me, though, is it’s brother line Boy. By Band of Outsiders. Their sister label Girl. By Band of Outsiders is great with its Boyish turned feminine prints and styles. But, Boy. By Band of Outsiders is so original. In my opinion it’s really hard to find new innovative things in fashion. Boy. is definitely it. I’m crazy-obsessed with the blue and white pinstripes and precise tailoring. I like the fact that it’s a mostly separates label, but they do have gorgeous dresses, one shown here
